DENGFENG, CHINA
- Houston based To God be
the Glory Sports returned from China after
an 8 day trip to plan the completion of
construction on a world outreach sports
center in Henan province.
Representatives from TGBTG met with
the mayor and construction officials in
Dengfeng and an investment group in
Nanjing to create an outlined plan of action
to get the building opened by the Spring of
2008.
The building is 177,000 square feet, 5 stories high,
and sits on 6 acres of land in the Songshan
Mountains. The world outreach sports
center sits adjacent to one of many Chinese
kung fu schools in the city. It
approximate current market value is $ 2.2
million USD, including land and building.
TGBTG Sports is continuing to develop a plan of activities and
events for the center, part of which will be
to begin advertising month long summer
retreat sports camps at the facility.
In addition to classrooms, activity centers,
and sports training areas, the TGBTG
World Outreach Sports center is equipped
with overnight dormitory space to house the
participants.
"We envision the center being an
international attraction during the summer
for young people interested in serious
sports training that also want a chance to
see China," said Cyril White, managing
director of TGBTG Sports. "The
city of Dengfeng is world renowned for the
Shaolin Temple and draws thousands of
visitors from around the world. We
plan to take advantage of the remote
location to create a focused atmosphere of
sports training as well as offering a
valuable cultural exposure experience."
During the year, TGBTG will cooperate
with other businesses, schools, and groups
to organize programs that are consistent
with the mission of TGBTG Sports.
The building is roughly 70% completed, and
construction will resume in late November
2007 as the general contractor estimates it
will take roughly 2 months to have the
facility ready for use. After visiting
the center, White said he is impressed with
what his organization has to work with.
"Although we have a considerable investment
to make to complete the project, there has
been great progress made prior to my
arrival," said White. "It will now be
the up to us and our cooperative partners to
make the most of this situation and use it
for the greatest good." TGBTG will
return to China in September 2007 for a 13th
professional basketball tour versus the top
teams in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The organization will continue to spread the
word and market the programs to be offered
at their new facility in 2008.
"We are thankful for the opportunity to be
involved with this international
construction project, and we are optimistic
that our efforts, though not political, will
do much to promote the good relationships
between the United States and China." said
White.
