Since the very first camp in June 1997, To God Be the Glory has remained committed to being a light for God’s kingdom in the sports arena. Realizing that ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS, TGBTG is strongly committed to providing the best possible service in our camps, clinics, training, tournaments, facility rentals, and overseas basketball tours. TGBTG Sports invests in building up the lives of at risk youth as well as providing athletic career opportunities for young adults.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY SPORTS
started the fall 2009 preparing for a 1 month tour in China. The TGBTG Free Agent Professional Team, featuring 2005 NBA Draftee Orien Greene landed in China on Sept 2 for 10 games in 8 cities over the 26 day period. This was the 15th TGBTG Professional Basketball tour in China since 2000.

The tour games brought in estimated audiences of 100,000 fans in the 10 games against 4 of the top teams in China and Russia. 5 Televised games reached viewing audiences of 15 million people in 8 Chinese cities. While further branding the TGBTG Sports image in the China Basketball Market, TGBTG continued in line with our corporate mission of enlightening, inspiring, and empowering the athletes that we work with.
The TGBTG team completed the September 2009 China Tour with an 8-2 record, and 2 job placement opportunities for TGBTG athletes to sign contracts in China. TGBTG Sports was invited to return to China from November 17- December 7, 2009 for another 10 game tour.

Back in the USA, TGBTG launched an After School Program for 50 at risk youth ages 12-17 at the TGBTG Multi Purpose Center on September 15, 2009. On Monday-Thursday - 4pm – 6pm, the 50 youngsters participate in organized fitness activities with weekly guest speakers to give provide exposure to professional careers. This TGBTG Sports Community Service activity provides 40 hours per month of positive alternatives for the at-risk youth in the Southeast Houston area. The After School Program runs thru the end of the school year. These TGBTG activities encourage kids to stay in School, fight obesity, and increase number of young people going to college.

December 2009 – February 2010, TGBTG facilitated the after school programs and facility rentals for 5 Houston Area AAU Youth Groups. The TGBTG Sports Facility was made available to 80 kids ages 8-15 through partnerships with other charity organizations. The TGBTG Multi Purpose Center was used 60 Hours per month in cooperation with local charity groups needing gym space for youth activities. In December, TO GOD BE THE GLORY SPORTS founder/director Cyril White was recognized by NIKE for Houston’s Outstanding Community Coach in a private ceremony at the House of Hoops in the Galleria. TGBTG Sports received an athletic equipment package from NIKE in addition to the Special Award, presented by rapper Bun B from UGK

In January 2010, TGBTG client Anthony Tolliver was signed to a contract to play with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. Tolliver had trained with TGBTG Sports staff about 60 Hours in the summer of 2009. Tolliver became a starter for the NBA team and averaged 12.7 points and 6 rebounds for the season.
His success in Golden State led to a second contract in August when Tolliver signed a 2 year guaranteed contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

From February-April 2010, TGBTG Hosted 4 Youth Basketball Tournaments and a Youth Education Convention at the TGBTG Center. The events allowed TGBTG Sports to reach over 600 young people in the greater Houston area, while exposing the facility to over 1500 people. The goal of these events is to give young people college exposure opportunities and provide positive avenues for them to achieve important life goals.

pdf In February, TGBTG SPORTS cooperated with the NBA Retired Players association for a clinic with 80 inner city youth in Dallas as part of the NBA’s All Star Weekend Events. This was the first cooperation between the two organizations.

In February, TGBTG Sports hosted a delegation from China’s Sports Federation for events at NBA All Star weekend. With the assistance of TGBTG support staff, the Chinese group attended several events & related seminars over the four day weekend in Dallas. These relationship building activities are essential to the growth and development of the organization, and help to further establish international goodwill through TGBTG resources.

In May, TGBTG Sports was invited to bring players to China for a draft camp for a new professional league – the NBL. The 3 month league would draft 20 American players out of a pool of 38. TGBTG placed 6 players in the draft camp, and 2 players were selected in the first round. TGBTG Players Nick Stallings (Centenary) and Quincy Davis (Tulane) were selected 3rd & 8th, respectively, and signed 3 month guaranteed contracts to play pro basketball in China.

In May, TGBTG Sports secured a 4 month training contract with WNBA World Champion Janell Burse, formerly of the WNBA Seattle Storm. Burse signed up to train 200 hours at the TGBTG Sports Center between May-September 2010 before returning to Poland continuing her professional career with TS Wisła Can-Pack Kraków.

June – August was filled with weekly basketball camps from 9a-4pm Monday-Thursday for kids ages 7-16. TGBTG reaches about 200 kids per summer with the camp activities organized by TGBTG Sports trainers and coaching staff. TGBTG hosted 3 private workout sessions for college coaches scouting young talent and offering young people scholarships on the spot. TGBTG created opportunities for over $ 500,000 in scholarship distribution for qualified TGBTG college bound
participants in 2010.

The College and Professional players train about 15 hours per week in the summer. This year, TGBTG maintained a solid client base between 20-25 over the summer, with most clients home for the summer from overseas jobs. In addition to their personal training regimens, the TGBTG Athletes meet 3-4 times per week for controlled scrimmage sessions together. In June 2010, TGBTG Training Client Dexter Pittman was selected # 32 in the NBA Draft by the Miami Heat. Pittman has signed a 3 year contract with the Miami Heat, and has pledged a percentage of his salary to TGBTG Sports to support the organization thru 2012.

In the Summer, TGBTG Sports partnered with area charity groups Shoot to Score Hoops and the Retired NBA Players Group to host youth clinics at TGBTG Center in July and August. The events reached about 200 kids in the 2 weeks, and brought in NBA Legends Moses Malone, Allen Leavell, Harvey Catchings, and other legendary athletes to inspire the youth.

From August 6-16, TGBTG Sports returned to China for an International basketball tournament in Chengzhi city. With teams from Spain, New Zealand, Australia, and China, the TGBTG Free Agent team finished 2nd in the “Lu’An Cup” tournament. With the live audience and televised games, it is estimated the TGBTG Sports brand reached over 3 million viewers in the 1 week event.
